We’re proud to introduce you to the people who bring a unique blend of passion, expertise, and a whole lot of love for the work we do. Whether they’re nurturing plants, installing a new landscape plan, or simply sharing a smile, our team members are our roots—grounded, strong, and essential to our success.
Get to know the amazing people who make it all happen!
Nursery Operations Lead, Customer Care Supervisor
Rockhound, and Poet
Though he’d never admit it, Clint has been an integral part of the nursery from the beginning. He might also be the most unexpected poet you’ll ever meet—yes, when he’s not making sure everything is running like clockwork at the nursery, you’ll find him crafting poetry or authoring a new book in his free time. His vast array of life experiences have produced a highly-respected man of integrity, patience, and indispensability.
Clint is also a die-hard rockhound, always on the hunt for the next great find. He’s traveled far and wide to collect his treasures, and his passion even sparked the idea for our now-famous Gem and Fossil event. Oh, and he’s got a pet rock named Thor (yes, really).
Born in Verdun, France, Clint dreams of going back someday. His colleagues know him as generous, considerate, and always ready with a witty comeback. The best advice he’s ever received? “Show up fully in the present.” And if his life had a theme song, it’d be “Life by the Drop” by Stevie Ray Vaughan—reminding us to live life to the fullest and go after your dreams.
Lead Hardscape Specialist, Happiness Ambassador,
Creative Strategist
Friedo thrives in his role bringing detailed landscape installations to life. Because actual jobsites don’t always line up with the plan, it is important to have an analytical mind that sees more solutions than problems. Friedo always finds joy in the creative process and the responsibility it entails.
He is a true creative soul with a gift for painting, drawing, and crafting wooden toys from upcycled materials. Originally from Germany, with stints in Switzerland, and now making his mark in the U.S., his charming accent is a testament to his global journey.
If he could pick a travel destination, Iceland’s stunning landscapes would be at the top of his list. Colleagues might describe him as artistic, friendly, and “quite alright!” His life’s advice is simple: "Be patient." And if his life had a theme song, it would be "Everything is Gonna Be Alright!"—a perfect match for his optimistic spirit.
Landscape Designer, Portrait Artist, Explorer
Alysha’s landscape designs are a work of art, and that’s precisely why she heads up our landscape design department. Her plant knowledge combined with strong design and creative intuition produce the perfect combination of science and art in outdoor design. Her talent for portrait painting and quirky love for reading textbooks create a wonderful lens through which she sees the world.
She’s always on the go, traveling to new places to soak in different cultures and traditions. Her colleagues might call her sassy and playful, and they’ll also tell you she’s caring, self-assured, and artistic—a perfect mix of brains and boldness.
Whether she’s solving design problems with a keen eye for detail or adding her creative touch to a new landscape project, Alysha’s analytical mind and artistic aptitude make her an invaluable part of our team. The mantra she lives by? "Treat others, as well as yourself, as an ends and never as a means only."
Nursery and Customer Care Supervisor, Plant Enthusiast,
Mighty Force with a Heart of Gold
Don’t let Kim’s small frame fool you—she’s a strong, independent, self-reliant “horse girl” through and through. Kim loves spending time outside and learning new things, embracing every opportunity to grow.
Kim's varied life experiences have made her strong, steady, and smart. We feel so lucky to have such a quiet powerhouse keeping things organized and making us look so put-together. Her enthusiasm for plants and interest in gardening makes her a great resource for our customers.
With a hint of Irish heritage in her blood, she dreams of traveling to Ireland. Her life motto? "Don’t sweat the small stuff and pick your battles carefully." Wise words from a woman who absolutely knows what’s important in life!
Landscape Installation Specialist, Chief Merry-Maker,
Pond Know-(Most)-of-it-All
Tim’s interests in both the green industry and treasure hunting make him a perfect fit for our team, where he enjoys finding ways to unearth the natural beauty in each landscape design installation. His knowledge and background in water feature installation make him a strong team player, and the one who always has to get wet first.
Tim could easily be our Positive Vibes Ambassador and Chief Merry-Maker. He shows up to work each day with a smile and leaves each evening covered in dirt from head to toe, still smiling. He says that his colleagues would definitely describe him as tall, dark, and handsome—and if our team were a TV show, he’s convinced we’d be The Office, but way more functional! Tim dreams of taking a road trip through the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway from Gatlinburg, TN, to Asheville, NC, with a final stop in Charleston, SC. When it comes to food, he’s a fan of escargot, which grosses everyone else out.
His life motto? "You receive what you perceive." And if his life had a theme song, it would be "Don't Stop Believin'" by Journey, perfectly capturing his optimistic and adventurous spirit.
Landscape Installation Specialist, The Unspoken Force,
The Meticulous Executor
Gino is the quiet force behind some of our most stunning landscape design installations. With a strong work ethic and keen attention to detail, he approaches every project with precision and care, ensuring that each job is something we can all be proud of.
Gino’s roots in farming have given him a natural connection to the land, which shows in the pride he takes in his work. He’s the kind of guy who’s always there when you need him, offering help without being asked and bringing a calm, steady presence to our team. And while he might be a man of few words, his good sense of humor and kind heart always shine through.
Gino values the people in his life, both at work and at home. His family ties were evident when he once gave a tour of his workplace to his grandparents. It was a wonderful opportunity for us to meet the people that he values. Now, if only we’d get the opportunity to meet his cow named Henry!
A true team player, Gino’s consistency and hard work are matched only by his kindness and intelligence. Whether he’s working on the next beautiful landscape installation or sharing a side joke with coworkers, Gino’s presence makes our team stronger and our days brighter.
Landscape Technician, Experienced Barrel Racer, Driven Achiever
Bernadette brings a touch of beautiful South Carolina to our team, and we are happy her travels have led her to Wisconsin this summer. We are lobbying very hard to convince her to make Wisconsin (and Second Nature) her permanent home.
Bernadette is passionate about barrel racing with her American Saddlebred, Dixie. When she’s not in the saddle, she might be dreaming of a European adventure, starting in Italy to visit friends and explore the beauty of the continent. She’s serious about her work ethic and being an integral part of bringing beautiful landscape designs to life.
The most unusual thing she’s ever eaten? Rattlesnake! And if her life had a soundtrack, it would be "Mama Tried" by Merle Haggard, capturing her adventurous spirit and determination.
Landscape Installation Specialist, Classic Car Restorer, Construction Expert
Jessie is a hands-on guy with a passion for restoring old cars and trucks, bringing them back to life with the same dedication he brings to every landscape installation project. He’s also got a unique companion—a rescued pet raccoon named Terry! In the same way Terry has imprinted on Jessie’s heart, Jessie has also imprinted on ours.
His colleagues know him as responsible, determined, and honest, always taking pride in the work he does. If he could travel anywhere, he would head to Alaska for a hunting adventure. Jessie loves working outdoors, playing a key role in building the beautiful landscapes our team designs.
The best advice he’s ever received? Always take pride in your work.
And how lucky are we to have the privilege of working side by side with someone who does exactly that.
Landscape Technician, Sword-Wielding-Camera-Toting-Firefighter
Julian is a young man of many talents, balancing his love for helping others alongside fencing with swords. He has a passion for photography, a passion for the great outdoors, and a passion for understanding the details.
Julian is proud to be an active student member of the Viroqua Fire Department. His problem-solving and critical thinking skills are sharpened each day on the jobsite as he helps install new landscape designs. Julian dreams of heading to Alaska to witness the northern lights and try his hand at fly fishing.
His colleagues describe him as detailed, helpful, dedicated, and funny—with just the right amount of sass. Julian thrives on working outside, embracing every day as an adventure. His life motto? Stick with your dreams, even if they feel far away. And his life’s theme song? "Humble" by Kendrick Lamar—because it’s all about staying true to who you are while chasing your dreams.
Plant Mom, Artist, Sharpshooter
Kwyn brings her mad green thumb skills and interest to Second Nature at Reads Creek, where she’s earned her badge as a Proud Plant Mama. She is dedicated to learning new skills, highly efficient, and never takes guff from the plants or from Dave.
Kwyn is a devout animal lover, spoiling her cat Midnight and golden lab named Jyffie, along with any other animal she encounters, except butterflies…
She heads off to UW-Stevens Point this fall to study business administration and marketing, so we’re hoping she’ll straighten a few things out for us at the nursery again next summer. Kwyn thinks our team is like Duck Dynasty, full of personality and fun.
She loves propagating plants and making our world a little greener each day. Her favorite advice, straight from her grandma: "Do it now before you get too old and busy." Oh, and did we mention she can shoot a gun with the best of them?
Landscape Technician, Expert Trailer Backer-Upper,
Fishing Enthusiast
Severin isn’t just a pro at making sure your landscape edging is installed to perfection—he’s also an accomplished bass tournament angler with a passion for both bass and fly fishing. When this UW-Stevens Point sophomore is not out on the water with a fishing rod in his hands, you’ll find him making handmade lures, tying new flies, and studying business, conservation and marketing.
He dreams of a trip to Japan to witness first-hand how top-notch fishing gear is made. His co-workers tell us he's hardworking, funny, and takes pride in his work.
Severin loves turning landscape plans into reality, one piece of edging at a time, and lives by the motto "Work harder than everyone around you."
And for the record, the most unusual thing he’s eaten? A banana in a boat! If you know, you know.
Nursery Care Associate, Creative Go-Getter, Budding Plant Enthusiast
Meet Allison, our youngest green thumb at just 14 years old! Her love for plants and nature blossomed at Viroqua Area Montessori School, where she dove into various gardening projects. There, she learned the ins and outs of growing and caring for plants, and now she’s bringing that passion to our nursery, helping to keep everything thriving.
Allison loves how warm and welcoming the nursery feels—both for visitors and the team. Outside of work, she’s got a loyal sidekick in her 5-year-old poodle, Josephine. When it comes to advice, she follows her dad's mantra: “Have fun, work hard, and be kind.”
Allison is also a fan of birria tacos (yum!) and has a flair for the arts. She’s active in the Viroqua Community Theater and recently starred in a musical. In her downtime, she loves staying up late to sew and paint—creativity never sleeps! If her life had a theme song, it would be “The Longest Time” by Billy Joel because it makes her want to dance every time she hears it.
Co-Founder, Landscape Architect,
Operations and Problem-Solving Pro
Dave is well-known for his unending list of ideas, his fun-loving personality, and his ability to handle the tough stuff. But did you know that he enjoys word-find puzzles and dreams of staying at the giraffe hotel in Kenya?—he’s been lobbying hard for that one!
Co-founding and cultivating multiple businesses has taught him that your dreams are never too big. The common thread that runs through his blood is the ability to create amazing spaces, teams, and relationships. He is a strong proponent of making sure the team has people who are strong where you are weak. If our team were a TV show, Dave believes we’d be CSI, always solving complex puzzles with a talented and diverse crew who can handle most anything.
What he loves most about his job is helping people see the beauty in their outdoor spaces and finding creative solutions to their challenges. And if Dave’s life had a theme song, it would be "Livin’ on a Prayer" by Bon Jovi, capturing his optimism and determination perfectly.
Co-Founder, Business Operations, Work Mama
Who reads business books and the “about” sections of companies for fun? Yep, Jen does. Always on the lookout for ways to "do it a little better than last time," she enjoys learning about it all. Jen spent 20 years as a classroom teacher before co-founding and developing three successful businesses.
Her colleagues might describe her as hard-working, kind-hearted, and a glutton for the details. All papers flow to her and she’s the “work mama” of Second Nature at Reads Creek. Travel has taught her how much we are alike, no matter where your roots are. She looks forward to adding more travel to her bucket list and someday having a clean desk.
Working so closely with her husband Dave is both a self-described blessing and curse—sometimes their dynamic feels straight out of The Odd Couple! But through it all, she lives by her dad’s advice to give grace to others, and Dave’s daily reminder to step back, look at the big picture, and not sweat the small stuff.
