The Field Trip Experience at Second Nature at Reads Creek Nursery
Our field trips are a fun and engaging way to help students connect with the natural world. With several wide open grassy areas, a greenhouse, the nursery grounds, a creek with a beach, a koi pond, and professional staff, we offer the space and expertise that will make the next outing both educational and memorable. We will work with you to determine your needs and provide either a guided field trip experience, or the space you need for your self-guided field trip. Whether you have a group of elementary students, or a group from a nursing home, or anything in between, we can create an educational experience for your group.
Guided Field Trip
Field trips led by our professional staff are $5 per student for groups of 10 or more students. For groups of less than 10 students, the fee is $50. We ask that you provide at least one teacher or parent volunteer for every 10 students in attendance. There is no charge for adult chaperones, and we welcome any adults or parents who would like to participate in the learning experience.
(Specialized or Make & Take classes may involve an extra fee which we can discuss during our planning meeting)
Space Reservation without a Guide
Need a place to host your own lesson or outdoor activity? We welcome area educators to use our designated space for their outdoor education lessons. We have a large area of grassy space a short distance from the parking area and the sand beach by the creek is a great place to do some hands-on water study. There is no charge for using our designated space for your activity, but you must formally request permission through the Field Trip Request form and receive confirmation that the space is available for your group. For your safety, your group must remain together in the designated area. Active and engaged chaperones are required for every 10 students.
